1. What was your original plan for a job? Did you always want to be a teacher, or did you pivot at some point?
After graduating from college, I became a science writer and editor for the magazine Scientific American. I had the honor of interviewing many great scientists of the time! I decided to become a teacher about 10 years ago, but I have always loved science and engineering!
2. What would be one word that described you as a person and why?
Eclectic–I think I have a very broad array of interests and enjoy learning about cultures around the world.
3. What does your dream getaway-trip look like?
I enjoy hiking in the mountains and eating great food so I could be very happy near Kathmandu or Lima or Zurich or Montreal or San Francisco!
4. Who was your childhood idol?
Pelé. I learned to play soccer at a time when it was not very popular in the US. I eventually earned a spot on my high-school JV team as a midfielder.
5. We understand that you’ve been involved in March for Dimes in the past, what drew you to work there?
The March of Dimes is a foundation that seeks to improve the health of mothers and babies. Our family had an adverse event around the birth of our first son. My wife and son survived and thrived, and we felt we might be able to help others by volunteering for the foundation.
6. Are you a Star Wars or Star Trek fan?
Both! The best are Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Trek Beyond!
7. If you were a pastry, what would you be?
Apple-Vanilla-Cardamom Bun, specifically from Vettekatten in Stockholm. Yum!
