Wear Purple to Support LGBTQ+ Youth on Thursday 10/17

Per Jillian Butler and Lisa Flannery, SAGA Advisors

Thursday, October 17th is Spirit Day- a day when we support LGBTQ+ youth by wearing purple!
From GLAAD: On Thursday, October 17, millions will wear purple in support of LGBTQ youth for #SpiritDay, the world’s most prominent anti-bullying initiative. This movement inspires LGBTQ+ youth, particularly transgender and nonbinary individuals, to embrace their truth and authenticity.

While GLAAD’s research indicates that LGBTQ+ acceptance has reached unprecedented levels, anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination and bullying remain significant challenges. The surge of online hate is fueling real-world harm, compounded by an anti-LGBTQ+ climate that includes book bans, restrictions on drag performances, erasure of LGBTQ history, and limitations on healthcare. In this environment, America’s youth face greater risks and need our support now more than ever. #SpiritDay provides LGBTQ+ youth, their families, and allies a chance to witness the impact of leading with acceptance.
