Mr. Mendiola-Hines is a brand new member of the BHS staff this year who has taken over two college prep physics classes, two honors physics classes, and one high honors physics class in room H103 since joining as a teacher in December of 2024. The Lookout has reached out to him for an interview to learn a little more about his interests and personality outside of the classroom.
What did you do/where did you work before BHS? So, just before BHS, I was working at Perkins School for the Blind. But I’ve worked on farms, I’ve worked in restaurants, I was an amazon delivery driver for a while.
What is your favorite part about teaching? My favorite part would have to be seeing students be excited to learn, and then years after I have them when they would come back to my classroom just to say hi.
How would you describe yourself in three words? Relaxed, Sarcastic, and Hardworking.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of teaching? Rock climbing, playing video games with my wife, and escape rooms.
What is something on your bucket list? Full sleeves. Full tattoo sleeves on my arms, and a back tattoo.
What is your favorite book/movie? I’d have to say Spirited Away, by Studio Ghibli.
What are you looking forward to for your future at BHS? I’m looking forward to not coming into the middle of the school year as the “new teacher”. Just starting fresh instead of joining a class that has already been going on, so just sort of anchoring myself here and becoming not just a “middle of the year” teacher, but just being a “teacher.”
