On Tuesday April 29th, BHS held their annual poetry slam! This year’s poetry slam was hosted by Jamele Adams and took place in the BHS library. The event featured both an open mic section where anyone was able to share a poem and a competition portion where students read their poems for a panel of judges. This year, 15 students participated in the competition section. James Bryan won third place, Logan Toth won second, and Sayontika Bhattacharya won first overall!
Ms. Kane, one of this year’s judges, shared her thoughts on the night saying “This is one of my favorite days of the year. I love hearing students’ voices and poetry is such a special means of expression.” Second place winner, Logan Toth, shared the sentiment and added “It was my first time ever sharing my poems with a public audience and it was such a positive experience.”
All the contestants and attendees we talked to agreed that there was an incredibly supportive environment at the event, and that it was an amazing opportunity to hear others share their work!
