Join BHS Fusion Dance!

By Reagan Puhak

There’s a new club coming to BHS! Aanya Jain and Mahi Busa are the captains of the BHS Fusion Dance club which will be having its first meeting soon. Lookout editor and staff member Reagan Puhak interviewed Aanya to learn more about the club and the process of organizing it. Below is a transcript of her responses

Reagan: Can you tell me a little bit about what the club is about?

Aanya: This club is about teaching kids how to dance, while also representing our Indian culture through Bollywood dance. We want to help kids become more confident because dance is all about expressing yourself.

Reagan: How did you get the idea to start the club?

Aanya: We’ve always wanted to start one because there’s not really any dance clubs at BHS beyond the Step team. Bollywood dance has always been a really big part of our life and we wanted to be able to integrate it into our school and bring it to life.

Reagan: What’s been the most difficult part of organizing this club?

Aanya: Actually getting everything started. Figuring out when to have our first meeting, and also choreographing the dances has been a bit hard. Also getting people to actually show up was a little hard.

Reagan: What are you most excited about for running the club this year?

Aanya: We are most excited to teach the dances, and also posting it on social media to share with others. We’re also really excited to perform our dances.

Reagan: Where and when do you think you will be performing?

Aanya: Maybe after the new year or in the spring would be a good time. We aren’t exactly sure where the performance will be yet, but we’ve been asking people and trying to figure it out. We’re also definitely trying to perform at some Indian events.

Reagan: Why should people join?

Aanya: People should join because if they need a break they can just come and vibe with us. They should also join because they can get a great insight into Bollywood dance and the culture around it. Dance is good exercise, but it’s also an art.

Reagan: What’s the meeting schedule?

Aanya: The first meeting will be December 3rd in the dance studio near the small gym.  At first we want to do meetings every other Tuesday after school. If it gets really popular we might change it to every week, because we don’t want people to forget the dances.
