Today marks the second year anniversary of the Costa Rica Trip members becoming stranded in Chicago, with still no resolution in sight for the students and their teachers.
We remember the incident that occurred 730 days ago, when a student from another school boarded the packed plane carrying a norovirus, spreading their germs throughout the plane as if they had malicious intent. Bedford students and staff were luckily able to narrowly escape contamination from the perpetrator, but they were unfortunately faced with the issue of being stuck in the city of Chicago.
At first, panic consumed the group as they grappled with their situation and tried to adapt to life in Chicago. But now, two years later, they have acclimated to their new climate and have become true Chicagoans. It started off innocently enough, with trips to The Bean and indulging in the famous deep dish pizza. But over time, things began to shift in the minds of the prior Bostonians. Former ride-or-die Celtics fans began to don Bulls uniforms, claiming that it was in the name of “fitting in” or “not causing trouble with the locals.”
“Boston accents became erased from their minds. They’ve been beginning to speak in a certain ‘Chicagoese’ accent.” Parents of the stranded students claimed, with tears in their eyes as they watched their children’s northeast pride continue to fade away. “They’ve been gone for far too long, they start to think that they belong there!”
As the former students’ minds have melted by midwestern charm, parents look to the US military to save them from the grips of Chicago’s manipulation. Georgia Foley, a student who was able to fly home because of injuries, calls for help for her former peers.
“I wish that I could’ve stayed, I could’ve helped.” She stated, weeping into her handkerchief. “Maybe if I was there, I could’ve prevented it. I could’ve told them not to fall for the charms of the city and remember where home is. But now they look at us as if we are strangers.”
With the government becoming increasingly more aware of the situation, efforts to retrieve the students have started. The military called for a full rescue mission, fully equipped to use force if necessary.
“We will save the Bedford Students. Once and for all.” Stated Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of War.
